Do you know the most common cause of a heating oil tank failure? It’s corrosion from inside the oil tank. Condensation builds up on the walls in the empty part of a heating oil tank. Water then drips off the walls and sinks to the bottom of the tank. There, it creates an ideal environment for the creation of sediment, which causes the corrosion of your tank from the inside out.
If you regularly check your aboveground oil tank, you’ll see signs of corrosion. One is blistering in the paint on the underside of the tank. The others are pinhole leaks and condensation remaining on the outside of the tank after a heating oil delivery.
